Actor, Jocko Sims (“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” “Masters of Sex”) can be seen starring as ‘Lt. Carlton Burk’  this summer on the TNT Network hit show “The Last Ship.”

How did you get your start in acting?

I originally wanted to be a doctor or dentist after high school.  As soon as I got into college, I realized that I didn’t want to be in school for the next twelve years, so I decided to study theater for 4 to 5 years instead, and that’s how I got into it.

What was your first big break?

I began working as a guest star on shows for ABC and CBS while in college, but my first big break came as a series regular playing opposite the late Dennis Hopper in Starz’s first original drama series, “Crash,” where I played Hopper’s protégé, an aspiring rapper and music producer.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

I would tell my younger self to write scripts while in college.

Do you have a dream role? If so, what is it?

I want to play the psycho in a thriller because I love those kinds of films.  I also love playing fragile characters.

How do you deal with fans who get too excited when they meet you?

Okay, I’m not a member of One Direction, so I don’t have to worry about getting trampled, but I find that my senses go up if I see someone trying to get a little too close or personal online. I try to distance myself from them and limit interaction if someone crosses the line. But for the most part, the fans that support me are truly awesome.

What’s the last CD you purchased?

Damn.  I had to sit back in my seat on that one.  I just realized it’s been a long time since I actually purchased a physical CD!  It more than likely was a Michael Jackson disc from Amoeba Music in Hollywood.  But thanks for messing my head up with this question!

What’s your favorite art form?

Nothing can be more expressive, and evoke more emotion than film.  That would have to be my most favorite art medium as a spectator.  As a producer of art, I enjoy making music.

What legacy do you hope to leave in the world?

I want to leave people with having had a good time. I just want them to think of me and laugh or smile, and I hope that I’d have inspired people to do well in whatever it is that they wish to pursue.
