It’s summer somewhere in the world…

It’s July.

We have barbecued, we have swam, we have been bronzed.

Living in the US, it is easy to conclude that summer is all about cut-off shorts, grilling things, and perfectly fitting meat between slices of bread (aka – the hot dog and the burger).

But on one breezy summer night, as our cotton shirts blew in the wind, we pondered in our hopeful existence (for hope excels in the sun)–we pondered what summer is like everywhere in the world. We suppose it is our version of an endless summer.

Sprawled by curiosity (for that too thrives in the sun), we emerged on a quest to find a few fabulous bloggers worldwide, and have them share glimpses into summer in their regions.

We trailed from Indonesia to Sweden, Australia to Singapore, and Greece to Kenya.

We even featured bloggers from Chicago and Canada.

And while we discovered that it is always sunny in Jakarta (besides the rainy season), and the peace of the ancient ruins in Greece’s countryside, is worth dodging out of the busy city; one factor seems to remain the same–the attitudes. The warmth, the hope, the lightness and the amber energy that summer brings.

Summer is a good time to celebrate the oneness of humanity and the smiles that tie us together.

Besides, winter of love wouldn’t have had the same ring.

Scroll down, read through, and let our featured bloggers share their warmth and style with you.

Peace and love on earth.

Culture Starved,

xoxo

Whats your city like during the summer?

Pretty much the same as we got summer all year long. Maybe less rain and more humid compared to the rainy season (Jakarta only has two seasons: rainy and dry).

How does your city affect the way you get dressed?

I cannot wear too revealing clothes due to the conservative culture, although I can see some of the citizens are starting to wear them nowadays.

Whats your city like during the summer?

Summer months in Nairobi are December through March, lots of fashion events going on at this time but the best is FAFA, the execution is well done. plus great parties to attend during December

How does your city affect the way you get dressed?

If you  go to different cities in Kenya, you will probably notice how fashion and style choices can really vary from city to city (and some are quite shocking) according to me, People in Nairobi dress well compared to the other cities in Kenya, Nairobi is too metropolitan, so alot of people with different styles, which makes it a cool city to live in 🙂

During summer Melbourne really comes alive there’s people everywhere, shopping, at bars, parks, restaurants and the beaches and there’s always a lot of night life too.

How does your city affect the way you get dressed?

The only thing that affects the way I dress are the seasons, but taking into context there’s a lot of black used in fashion here and full white linen suit would definitely standout!

Whats your city like during the summer?

It’s an experience like no other. It cold three seasons out of the year so when the sun comes out, the party animals come out to be destructive! Everyone is on the beach, riding their bikes or shopping! Plus there’s always a music festival or a parade going on during the summer. I absolutely adore Summertime Chi!

How does your city affect the way you get dressed?

It depends on the atmosphere. I’m like a fashion chameleon. I adapt to my surroundings. The way I dress in New York or DC is completely different to how I would dress in LA.

I cannot live without my summer dresses. (Yes, all of them!) I love wearing loose clothing where I can move and not feel so restricted. Short sundresses, long ones, and high-lows all make my summer that much more fabulous!

What’s your city like during the summer?

Chicago is full of energy during the summer, everyone is out enjoying the weather when it’s nice and there is always something to do.  The city is filled with different neighborhoods that have the best shopping, bars, restaurants, and sight seeing so you’re never bored!

How does your city affect the way you get dressed?

Growing up in a city where anything goes fashion wise I have acquired a very versatile wardrobe.  I like to have fun when buying new clothes or getting dressed.  I can go from being grungy one day to looking like a complete gentleman the next. Chicago allows you to be an original and take risks when getting dressed.

City: Windsor (Canada)

Whats your city like during the summer?

Windsor is a very small city and most of the occupants of the city are students from all over the country and the world, so it gets very boring during the summer because everyone goes back home plus it’s really hot! On the other hand, there’s lots of festivities and music every now and then. There’s always a new band to discover or some new food to try out. Plus, we’re at the Canada-US border so we get to take long walks on the riverside and go on various boat rides on the Detroit river to cool off!

How does your city affect the way you get dressed?

Most people in Windsor have a very laid back style. You would see most people in a t shirt, a pair of skinnies or denim shorts and flip flops. However, I like to dress up in my heels a lot, but when I do people just stare at me which is kind of creepy, so these days I get rid of the heels if I’m not going for an event. To keep my style, I mix up statement accessories and wear a pair of cute flats with sunnies.

Tell our readers a summer essential you cannot live without:

Sunscreen and Sunglasses. Summer is all about the sun and heat. Because it’s so hot here, I have protect my skin with an SPF 60 lotion and always wear a pair of sunglasses.

Uli

City: Singapore

Whats your city like during the summer?

My city is geographically located on the equator so we experience summer all year round. Is that a blessing or a curse? But it does get extra hot during the ‘summer’ months. People here love outdoors, shopping, movies and local cuisine like Laksa. Over the weekends, I enjoy digging up treasures at a thrift store followed by popping by a cafe to chill out. For me, it’s all about being casual and laid back!

How does your city affect the way you get dressed?

Singapore is not just hot, it’s HUMID; a humidity of 83% is no surprise. Sometimes it’s so hot that you just feel like going out in a swimsuit. Because of that, it is extremely difficult to layer so I try to pick light fabrics and gravitate towards a lot of maxi dresses during summer months. To combat the heat, I always keep hair away from my face and neck, go easy on my makeup and avoid thick belts which can be really uncomfortable. I am obsessed with boots so I wear them all year round, summer or not.

Anti-perspirant. (Nothing exciting but so important)

Finish this sentence. It wouldn’t be summer without your… city looking so tropically beautiful. And an iced latte.
